This list had its genesis in a summary posted to the TakomaPakk list. Thanks to all the parents (mostly moms) that shared information and compiled this list.
Many preschools do not take children under two years.
There are a number of distinctions:
Full-time day care take children 5 days a week, usually starting at age 2, for a normal business day. Nursery schools are usually just a few hours a day, often just a few days a week until pre-K. Coop schools require a parent to work in the classroom, usually every week or every other week. So if you are full-time stay at home, you are probably going to be interested in different schools than if you also have a paid job.
Most schools are non-religious, and given the diverse area we live in either celebrate many types of holiday in a secular-appreciation mode, or do not do holidays at all. There are a few explicitly religious schools on the list, and they celebrate the holidays as they find appropriate.
Also, here are some NAEYC (National Assoc. for the Education of Young Children) accredited preschool programs.
